About

I'm Tony. I build software, lead the people who build it, and share what I learn along the way.

I've spent about ten years building software. I started on systems nobody was allowed to break, first a multinational's stock system, then software inside a bank, and learned early that boring practices like types, tests and careful migrations are what keep things standing.

Then I moved into leading: first at Planity, where the scale was real and the migrations had to go unnoticed, and now as Head of Engineering at Fonts Ninja, where I'm taking the team AI-first.

Working with AI every day made one thing clear: it writes code faster than any team I've run, but it is only as good as the engineering around it. Good types, retries, caching and tests are what make its output safe to ship. That's what my videos and my Effect course are about.

I make videos because I like sharing what I learn. I like improving how fast and how well I work, even on my days off. Away from the keyboard, I'm usually travelling: nice beaches, or small cities with beautiful nature.

The path so far

  1. 2025–now

Head of Engineering / Fonts Ninja

Leading a team of five, taking us AI-first while migrating legacy systems to ones that scale: we process thousands of new sites a day. The leverage is real, but someone still checks the work.

  2. 2020–2025

    Lead Developer / Planity

Grew from developer to lead of a team of six, running real scale: Lambda and DynamoDB serving hundreds of appointments a minute, and a zero-downtime stats migration to Elasticsearch that came out faster and cheaper.

  3. 2017–2019

    Analyst Programmer / LCL

My first real team, inside a bank, where best practices stopped being theory.

  4. 2016–2017

    Web Developer / FWA

My first job: keeping a multinational's critical stock system alive. Legacy code you cannot break teaches you fast.
